Google Tracing Us For Good ?

Google is everything now on the internet, it is like a mega giant to cater everything from the social services to the personal and blogging platform to the basic searching needs to the video related need of a geek. Geek are also well pampered by it, by its Google Code. SEO techniques are also ON now to take care by webmasters. What else left ? an operating system ! but what if google is already done it or in a way to get that too professionally. Google is working OS with Ubunto and named it gOS.

What is to ponder is the tactic by google for its users in each and every service. It is google manipulated results in its search facility. One is very bad and one is something like good for some but bad for me. Good one first to understand the second one.

Google is very strong in its policies as it shares the main lead in searching, so it dont want to benefit its rivals or competing portals from it. The one most prominent example is of Bitvertiser, it is something not close to google to adsense but it is competant to google adsense in almost many ways as it offers ads in feeds also like google. Even google feed service feed burner can also be integrated with bitvetiser. But try to search this Bitvertiser from GOogle search, not only the bitvertiser pages are deleted even the main page listing is deleted. So pathetic. Consider how many services then be deleted from their search queries, which is altogether a bad user experience. It is against SEO (Search Enging Optimisation).

Second one is also something related to manipulated results. Google by default is now recording the habits of your search to offer you future results according to your searching habbits, it is fine for many users as they really follow their routine, even google depicts this in their yearly zeitgeist. Try to look Pakistan’s searching trends.

So, How it is not good ? Consider me, I user their search engine as the resource center for studying resource for my university assignments and on the other hand as a resource for blogging the tech news at my tech blog, which is although not new or lates but a few days old. What I am trying to say is that my blogging search comes mainly from blogs and from the deep internet websites, but when I search for my assignments I need results from the professional covering websites as well as the language should also be good enough to reckon the authenticity of the material or text content.

Get your OpenID at Google

Google is everywhere on the internet serving people at every nook, we also seek it to help us for good and bad both. This time again Google is serving for people, by offering the OpenID provider from its blogspot platform.

One can easily have an OpenID for each of owned blog URLs which can be used on any website that accepts OpenID 1.1 authentication.

How to Get one ?

Simply edit your profile at blogspot and mark the check for Enable OpenID for Blogs and it’s done.

However they say:

Since this feature is still in draft, there are a few caveats:

  1. We currently do not support OpenID for blogs that aren’t hosted on Blog*Spot or a custom domain, such as FTP blogs. However, the OpenID web site has a help page that explains how to workaround this limitation by delegating your FTP blog to a Blogger-hosted blog.
  2. If you say “Yes, Always” to trust an OpenID site forever, you cannot now delete that trust. We will add this feature soon.

Some more ID provider’s are:

myOpenID.com, GetOpenID.com, TypeKey, MyLID.net , claimID.com, OpenProfile, netliberty.ru, OpenID.cn

Google Logo: High Resolution (3600×1500)

Google is getting bigger and bigger no doubt but now watch out for their nice High Resolution Google Logo which we see daily at their start-up search page. You can also set it at as your wallpaper, isn’t great. Google allover you oh I mean on your desktop.

p.s. Download it and save it for your later use to crop it, resize it or distribute at your own will. This size is adjustable to almost 75% of all desktops, isn’it it ?

Christmas Winter Theme for iGoogle

Google has offered last week a new christmas, winter, and holiday theme for its iGoogle.

How to set this them at your iGoogle?

  • just go to iGoogle select themes>Holiday Village ! and tada ! Enjoy your theme for iGoogle
  • If you can’t see the theme, you might try to copy this code in your
address bar while visiting iGoogle and then press Enter. It seems that
not all computers can access the theme’s files, so this code could
reset the theme to the default one.
javascript:_dlsetp(’preview_skin=skins/holidayvillage.xml’);

Google’s Wikipedia KNOL

  • Google’s Wikipedia or Killing the wikipedia??
  • Google has just announced its knowledge base website similar to Knol, is it another step to own the internet?

A new, free tool that we are calling

“KNOL”

,
which stands for a unit of knowledge. Our goal is to encourage people who know a particular
subject to write an authoritative article about it.

The key idea behind the knol project is to highlight authors.

We believe that knowing who wrote what will significantly help users make better use of web content. At the heart, a knol is just a web page; we use the word “knol” as the name of the project and as an instance of an article interchangeably. It is well-organized, nicely presented, and has a distinct look and feel, but it is still just a web page.…

Google will not serve as an editor in any way, and will not bless any content. All editorial responsibilities and control will rest with the authors.…

At the discretion of the author, a knol may include ads. If an author chooses to include ads, Google will provide the author with substantial revenue share from the proceeds of those ads.

How Google works

Found an interesting link on how the great google works. Useful info for many.
Didn’t find such a neatly organised step by step information on how google works.
It
would have been titled as how Google search Engine works. That would
have been a perfect title. Thanks to Times Of India article.
The below link is also a good source and it’s still not directly from Google.

Below is the info from Google direct.

Google is Integrating Profiles

They’re coming and it will be difficult to get away without having one. Google Profiles will be integrated in most Google services so you have a coherent identity and a simple way to manage your contacts.

“A
Google Profile is simply how you represent yourself on Google products
— it lets you tell others a bit more about who you are and what
you’re all about. You control what goes into your Google Profile,
sharing as much (or as little) as you’d like.”

Until now, you
could create profiles in Blogger, orkut, Google Groups, Google Co-op
and all of them could contain different information. You could also add
photos in Gmail, Google Talk and orkut, so the situation started to
become confusing.

Profiles
are public and contain basic information about yourself: a nickname
(the real name is displayed only to your contacts), your occupation,
your location, a list of links, a photo and a short description. They
are embedded as iframes in pages that showcase user-generated content (personalized maps, shared bookmarks).

It’s not a stretch to see that these profiles are the perfect host for your activity and your public activities could become a part of the profile
(uploading photos to a public album, bookmarking web pages, posting a
new blog post). It’s basically
FrindFeed’s widget that can be contemplated at Paul Buchheit’s blog.

A
side-effect of the public availability of your profile is that people
can find it. “Can people do a Google search for my name and find this
profile? It depends. If you put your full name in the Nickname field,
pages on which your profile appears may be returned as results by
Google.” You can already find more than 100 profiles
attached to Google Maps pages. Maybe Google will even create a
directory for profiles and start to suggest friends based on personal
descriptions, location and activity streams.
