I have been always in search of good looking, nice and fast code editor to reckon and edit my blog widgets, code look-ups, and to save many tiny bitty things onto my desktop for read at later time. Once I also had my hands on Metapad, which is quite similar to WordPad (which comes with windows) so I prefered WordPad over it. But then Notepad++ come to the rescue. Imagine a code-editor with language support like HTML, CSS, Java, PHP, XML, etc. It also offer you to switch between Windows, Mac, and Unix format. One can work in tabs instead of opening a new one and filling up the space in taskbar. You can also access your all files and directory via built in explorer with just a click on the toolbar. Back up feature is also a worth to mention.

The most catchy and amazing feature is the Macro’s. Simply record a macro, name it and apply it in the document as many times you want. Although it has all the basic features of the notepad. This application is free licensed and open-source. Here I want to mention one thing it lacks, not a big one for many of us for me atleast. The built in Help section, as it referred me to some of its home-site when I found myself lost. (I think all open-source softwares don’t offer built in help)

It is nice alternative to the classic notepad and I bet you won’t miss your classic notepad ever.
